Dr. Tager's study, which is funded by the NIA, focuses on the relationship between physiological (cardiopulmonary reserve, muscle strength and muscle mass), behavioral (leisure time physical activity, hobbies, occupation, etc.) and social factors (living arrangements, neighborhood characteristics) on the occurrence of functional impairment/disability/medical morbidity and mortality. The study followed a community based cohort for 8 years (four rounds of evaluation) and continues to follow the cohort for ongoing mortality. Dr. Tager's laboratory is currently in an analysis phase of the work.
